Most glasses cases are not built to last. A particular problem with conventional designs is the hinge, which is a weak point. They rarely look as stylish as the spectacles inside them.

Polar Creative has developed a range of elegant cases which combine high-strength ABS and carbon fibre bodies with waterproof seals and cushioned microfibre inserts. The cases will float in a swimming pool, don't have any hinges and fit smoothly into a trouser pocket.

The cases, designed and manufactured by Polar Creative, are due to go on sale in selected boutique opticians in 2010
