SMT is a process for constructing electronic circuits in which the components (often called Surface Mounted Components or SMC's) are mounted directly onto the surface of the PCB. It has largely replaced more conventional "through-hole" construction methods allowing PCBs to be much smaller through a major reduction in relative component size.
